Classroom Updates!

I will update each month with what we discuss in my classroom lessons so you can continue the conversation at home!

October Lesson!

In October, we are focusing on problem solving

Kindergarten through second grade read a story about a friend that did not want to share. We practiced "I-Statements" and made Problem Solving Wheels for them to use when they have a small problem!

Our third and fourth graders read a story about a friend that experienced a couple small problems throughout their day.  We used an umbrella and acted out different solutions to solve these problems!

November Lesson!

In November, we are focusing on empathy!

Kindergarten through second grade went on an adventure that took them around and taught them about what empathy is and how they can show someone that they care. They practiced and drew a picture of themselves showing empathy!

Our third and fourth graders discussed the importance of perspectives and seeing things from others point of view. We practiced seeing others perspectives and ended with a fun maze!

Check out some book recommendations on empathy to read at home! Don't forget to celebrate World Kindness Day on 11/13!

December Lesson!

In December, we are focusing on self-esteem!

Kindergarten through second grade will focus on self-love. We will discuss the importance of loving ourselves, discuss our unique qualities, and end with making our own "self-love books"!

Our third and fourth graders will discuss self-esteem and self-talk. We will discuss the differences and how they are connected. We will also make a craft and end with a fun worksheet!

This will help students build confidence, self-awareness, and resilience through self-love, self-esteem, and positive self-talk!

Here are some book suggestions for self-esteem!

January Lesson!

In January, we are focusing on coping skills!

Happy New Year! This month, kindergarten classes are learning different coping skills we can use in the classroom and when we need to use them. First and second graders are learning how coping skills can help us when we have a problem instead of making a choice that can make our problems worse. We completed with an activity on what healthy coping skills are and what skills could make our feelings or problems worse.

Our third and fourth graders watched a video on coping skills to use when they are going through tough times. We specifically talked about releasing tension, affirming yourself, interacting with others, and finding a new environment. They completed a craft that they can refer to when needed.
